Migraine is a neurological disease manifesting as a throbbing, most often one-sided headache that is often accompanied by nausea, vomiting, and sensitivity to light and sounds

The exact underlying cause of this neurological disease is currently unknown, but the leading role belongs to cerebral vasodilation. The drug treatment involves the usage of analgesics, antipyretics, beta-blockers, antidepressants, and is targeted, first of all, at cerebral vasoconstriction.

The comprehensive approach to the prevention or amelioration of migraine is identification of the most typical provoking factors and their maximum possible elimination.

The list of provoking factors is quite large. Often, they are foods like red wine, tomatoes, bananas, chocolate, cheese, tuna, sausages, and others. They comprise vasoactive amines that dilate blood vessels. Sulphites in dried fruit and wine, food colorants, nitrites in sausage products, caffeine in all drinks that contain it and aspartame (sugar substitute), oral contraceptives, food intolerances like those of lactose, gluten, and histamine, as well as acid-base disbalance and impaired intestinal microflora can also trigger migraines. An improper lifestyle accompanied by stress, sleep deprivation, and bad health habits can complicate its symptoms.

The formulations that include vitamin E, vitamin B complex, especially vitamins B2 and B6, Coenzyme Q10, minerals such as magnesium, chromium, selenium, eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), and melatonin can be used both for preventive purposes and when this disease is present. Parallel intake of these formulations with the medication will help to reduce its side effects. Herbal mixtures consisting of Pepper Mint, Purple Butterbur, and Feverfew known for their analgesic properties can also have a positive effect on the state of health.

In this period of time, it is recommended to exclude heavy physical exertion, sports activities, as well as strict fasting due to a possible sudden drop in blood glucose levels.
